Neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Increased risk for stroke in elderly patients w/ dementia-related psychosis. Monitor glucose control regularly. Patients w/ risk factors for DM (eg, obesity, family history of diabetes); hyperglycemia, prostatic hypertrophy, paralytic ileus & related conditions; history of seizures or risk factors that may lower seizure threshold. Avoid abrupt w/drawal. Associated psychosis in patients w/ Parkinson's disease. Elevated AST &/or ALT in patients w/ hepatic impairment, preexisting conditions associated w/ limited hepatic functional reserve & those being treated w/ potentially hepatotoxic drugs. Low leukocyte &/or neutrophil counts in patients w/ history of drug-induced bone marrow depression/toxicity, bone marrow depression caused by concomitant illness, radiation or chemotherapy, hypereosinophilic conditions, myeloproliferative disease & those receiving drugs known to cause neutropenia. Concomitant use w/ other centrally-acting drugs & alcohol, direct & indirect dopamine agonists, other antipsychotics. Measure BP periodically in patients >65 yr. May impair ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation.
